Ingredients

For the Homemade Pizza Dough
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast (9 g)
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour (24 g), for activating the yeast
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar (4 g)
  • ¾ cup plus 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon lukewarm water (200 ml), divided
  • 2⅔ cups all-purpose flour (320 g)
  • 1 tsp salt (6 g)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil (45 ml)
For the Pizza Topping
  • cup cup tomato sauce (150 ml)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (15 ml)
  • 5.3 ounces cooked ham (150 g), shredded or finely sliced
  • cups shredded mozzarella or another melting cheese (7 ounces/200 g)
  • 1 cup corn (5.3 ounces/150 g), well drained
  • 1-2 tbsp water, for brushing
  • Sesame seeds, flaxseeds, or other seeds, optional

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small bowl for activating the yeast
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Kitchen scale
  • Rolling Pin
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking sheet
  • Small bowl for shaping the center
  • Sharp knife or pizza cutter

Method

  1. Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine the active dry yeast, 3 tablespoons of flour, and sugar. Pour in half of the lukewarm water, about 100 ml, and stir until combined. Let the mixture rest for 5-10 minutes, until foamy and bubbly.
  2. Prepare the Dough

Add the 320 g of flour, salt, and olive oil to a large mixing bowl. Pour in the activated yeast mixture and the remaining lukewarm water. Mix until a rough dough begins to form.
  3. Knead the Dough

Knead the dough by hand for 5–7 minutes, until soft and smooth. The dough may remain slightly tacky, but it should pull away from the sides of the bowl.
  4. Let It Rise

Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Leave the dough in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll the Dough

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Transfer the risen dough to the parchment paper and roll it into one large circle. Place a small bowl upside down in the center.
  6. Add the Toppings

Mix the tomato sauce with the oregano and olive oil. Spread the sauce evenly around the bowl, leaving a small border around the outside. Add the cooked ham, shredded cheese, and drained corn in even layers.
  7. Shape the Pizza Ring

Remove the bowl from the center. Cut the exposed center circle into six equal triangular sections, cutting only as far as the filling begins. Fold each triangle outward over the toppings and gently press the tip near the outer edge.
Brush the folded dough lightly with water and sprinkle with seeds if desired.
  8. Bake

Transfer the pizza ring to the preheated oven and bake for 10–15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is completely melted. Allow it to rest for a few minutes before cutting or pulling apart the pieces.

Notes

  • The lukewarm water should feel pleasantly warm, never hot, or it may damage the yeast.
  • This dough makes one large pizza ring or two smaller regular pizzas.
  • Drain the corn well and avoid adding too much tomato sauce to prevent a soggy crust.
  • Mozzarella, provolone, cheddar, or a mixture of melting cheeses can be used.
  • Baking time may vary slightly depending on the thickness of the dough and your oven.
  • Optional seeds are not included in the estimated nutritional values.
