Ingredients

  • 8.8 oz puff pastry 250 g, thawed if frozen but still cold
  • 7 oz shredded cheese 200 g; about 1¾ cups, mozzarella or another good melting cheese
  • 6 tablespoons pizza sauce 90 ml
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano about 2 g

Equipment

  • Baking sheet and parchment paper
  • Rolling Pin
  • Sharp knife

Method

  1. Prepare the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll the pastry: On a lightly floured surface, gently roll the cold puff pastry into an even rectangle.
  3. Add the filling: Spread the pizza sauce over the pastry, leaving a small border along one long edge. Sprinkle evenly with shredded cheese and oregano.
  4. Roll into a log: Starting from the opposite long edge, roll the pastry into a snug log without squeezing out the filling. Gently press the seam to seal.
  5. Slice: Using a sharp knife, cut into 14 rounds, approximately ¾ inch (2 cm) thick. If the pastry becomes too soft to slice cleanly, refrigerate it briefly first.
  6. Bake: Arrange the rolls cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until puffed, lightly golden, and cooked through. Continue baking as needed if the centers are still underbaked.
  7. Serve: Allow to cool for a few minutes, then serve warm with extra pizza sauce for dipping, if desired.

Notes

  • Keep the pastry cold: If it becomes soft or sticky during preparation, chill it briefly before continuing.
  • Cheese measurement: Cup measurements vary with the cheese and shred size; use 200 g for the most consistent result.
  • Choose a thick sauce: A watery sauce can make the pastry soggy.
  • Baking time: Start checking at 10 minutes. Roll size, pastry thickness, and your oven may affect the time needed.
  • Nutrition: Estimates use mozzarella cheese and exclude flour for dusting and extra dipping sauce.
